June Carolyn Boswell (1962)

June Carolyn Boswell has demonstrated a distinguished career in public service, community leadership, and education.

A 1962 graduate of George Westinghouse High School, she continued her academic journey at Cheyney State College, earning her degree in 1968. Over the course of her career, Boswell held significant leadership roles, including Regional Director and Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Job Corps, where she managed Job Corps Centers in Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia. Her extensive service in the nonprofit sector included roles with the YWCA, YMCA, and Girard Bank in Philadelphia, where she was instrumental in directing employment and youth programs, as well as mentoring through various educational initiatives.

Boswell's career reflects a deep commitment to service and community involvement. A lifelong member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she has actively contributed to causes promoting health, financial security, education, and family stability, while serving on numerous boards such as the YMCA, YWCA, and the Private Industry Council of Collin County. She also created and managed the Minority Recruitment Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work. Throughout her career, Boswell has been recognized with numerous awards, including the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Job Corps Service Awards and the City of New Orleans Merit Award for her role in rebuilding post-Hurricane Katrina. Her impact extends far beyond her professional roles, shaping positive change in communities and fostering the growth and development of those she served.

MEMBERSHIPS: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc since 1965. It is socially conscious and social active in causes that challenge the health, financial security, educational and family stability of our community. I have been a chartering member of two chapters and have served as President, First Vice President, Executive Committee and Chairman and members of the Protocol, Constitution & Bylaws, Nominations, The Debutante Ball, Scholarship, Archives, Historian, and a host of other committees. Maintaining membership in the NAACP, The Urban League, The SPLC, NEED, and the Cheyney Alur Association. 

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: I've served on numerous community and regional agency and non- profit boards including the YMCA, the YWCA in Germantown and the YWCA in Philadelphia; Community Development Boards as President and committee members; the Private Industry Council of Collin County, Girl Scouts of Greater Philadelphia, the Leadership Hazelton Board, Sisters of Good Shepherd and local homeowner associations.
